AUTOSEVOCOM mostly rode AUTODIN (dedicated trunks?) & used the same precedence call processing. I worked AUTOSEVOCOM at Offutt (SAC HQ), King Salmon AFS and Elmendorf from 1973 – 1985.
AUTOVON was a huge step forward from the first narrow band secure voice terminal (TSEC/KO 6) which I worked on at the Pentagon in the late 1950″s, The KO 6 had 2000 vacuum tubes and the key generators were so expensive we called them little Cadillacs. Each terminal cost $150,000.00. in 1950 dollars.

AUTOVON is one of the two systems that provided precedence call process via Flash Override, Flash, Immediate, Priority and routine
The only other system is AUTODIN
I RECALL bells on the TTY signaling Flash traffic and operators jumping into action for priority messages
Both systems had premption features, used to clear away phone or message traffic to ensure delivery was completed
I was in the AUTOVON office B520 from 1984 thru 1992 as USAF NCO.
